Boeing is taking a taxiing to the sky.
The company has completed its first successful test flight of its autonomous flying taxi in Virginia.
The flight wasn’t much — just a takeoff, a few seconds of hovering, and a landing. Soon, the project will include horizontal movement in addition to the takeoff and landing.
The company characterized that phase of the project as “the most significant engineering challenge for any high-speed (vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft.”
It sounds like it’s one big drone for now — but the idea of pilot-less personal flight travel is appealing.
